  • I went to Camp Chanco as a kid in the 70's and 80's. My daughter (13) has been going for the last 5 years -- simply the best camp experience available. Also a terrific deal money wise. If your kid might be interested in having fun swimming, boating, archery, arts and crafts, making lifelong friends -- all the classic summer camp experiences send them to this camp!

  • We have our family reunion here every year for over 5 years. The staff are great and do everything to make the trip memorable. The scenery makes getting away from the daily grind relaxing.

Sent both my kids there several years ago and this is what happened. One child in his tween years who went with friends, roomed with kids all the same age and had a great time. My younger daughter had a horrible time which has taken years for her to forget about and has even talked to a counselor about being bullied there. She was roomed only with girls much older (about 5 years older) two of whom harassed her and bullied her. They made her pick up trash and clean the cabin including forced to get under the bunks and two girls demands who were the culprits. They stole her belongings and lauhped in her face, put their dirty feet on her pillow each day and forced her to lay on it just for kicks.... and so on....She wanted to leave and wanted to call me yet the camp is basically run by teens and they stuck their 'rules' of no contacting a parent. She told the camp what was going on and they apparently 'told the bullies to stop'. She was in bad shape when I picked her up. I contacted the head of the camp at the church office via letter. He responded to let me know camp was over and they would contact again when they were back in session. I have never heard from them although I did call back again. No response. Don't send a young kid as this is pretty much fend for yourself situation where kids are in charge of the kids and no one really gives a hoot about bullying or the psychological well being of a young camper.
